I work as a branch administrator in Konecranes’ offices in Santa Fe Springs, California. My job duties include payroll administration, contract processing, job costing, and employee data management. I started as a part-time temp, but after the first week, I was offered a full-time temp position. Eight months later I was offered a permanent position. I’ve been working as a branch administrator for four years now.
I heard about Konecranes through an employment agency. I like how the company is focused on providing excellent customer service, while looking out for the best interests of their employees. My colleagues believed that I could do my job with the right support and training. It’s made the difference, because my current position involves so many particular skills. There is no ready degree program for what I do. Only experience and on-the-job training can prepare you for this job.
You’d think working in an office is routine work, but for me no day is the same. I am always busy, because working with customers keeps you on your toes. I also need to make a lot of judgment calls on the job, because being proactive plays a big part in my work. I have to understand where we’re heading as a company and then factor that into my daily work. Even if you work independently, the company knows you’re there to do the job. I think it is this combination of trust and support that makes us unique.
